Hypothetical Voodoo

Long I’ve wondered what it would be like for one of my musical heroes, John Mayer, to meet and play with his heroes, two of the world’s greatest musicians who ever lived, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. A family tree of Master Musicians who look up to each other, me being the youngest. So unfortunate that both Jimi and Stevie Ray are no more, having lost their lives at a young age to two very peculiar ways of expiration.

Scientists are ever evolving, finding new ways to manipulate reality to make the world work for themselves in all sorts of ways, our own modern day wizards. This is how time travel and multiversal travel came into existence in my world. Anything is possible now, especially this!

Today I will be using science for the sake of creating history, happiness and entertainment. I am going to travel back in time and bring back both Hendrix and SRV. Fans have only dreamt about such a lineup, today this dream will cease to be a dream. Tonight is going to be the greatest night for Music, for guitar players and Blues aficionados alike.

Opening act/My act: I can’t just introduce the greatest musicians of all time without an opening act filled with suspense. This is my time to shine, as I’ve put the time, resources and effort to organise such an event, I will have to open for the three of my idols. I will perform three or four r&b/soul/pop songs of my own spanning two sets. I will ease into the opening act with just me and my acoustic guitar, and after my six minute acoustic set, I’ll bring out my band and perform two other songs. Now the crowd is all warmed up and settled in, I will now let them know that the suspense they feel will be coming to an end.

I introduce John Mayer to the crowd and they go wild. John comes out and performs Belief, Gravity, Slow Dancing In a Burning Room, and while performing his last song Wild Blue, he invites me on stage to play with him. He himself doesn’t know what’s to come, all he knows as everyone else does is that there’s a surprise at the end.

I tell John to close his eyes, the crowd starts roaring, everyone is going nuts, they can’t believe their eyes. Hearing the commotion, John opens his eyes, and before us stand both Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. John gets on his knees, and I along with him, we bow to our idols, we cry with happiness and satiation. A new feeling, a sense of familiarity, almost like when spider people from different realities come together. “What kinda voodoo is this!!” screams John. And that’s when both Stevie and Jimi smile at each other, the both of us and then the crowd. There it is, the opening guitar riff to Voodoo child, their fingers are lightning fast across the fretboard. Everyone is so excited, dopamine has reached a new high for us and everyone around. The four of us stand on stage and play together, each of us take turns to go play with one another, really a sight to see. The night goes down in history as one of the greatest moments for Music. And I Kaushik Ravindran was a part of it. Ah, there's nothing like daydreaming.
